Learn To Thrive

The Komo Curriculum

School doesn't have to suck.

Every teen can feel confident, motivated and earn the grades they're truly capable of.

Kelsey Komorowski here, founder of Komo, the learning company that specializes in using schoolwork to teach life skills. In the last decade, my team and I have worked with 3,000+ parents and their teens. We found that students can have the best teachers, tutors and technology but if they don’t have a system for learning - if they don’t have the skills to manage and engage in their work - they won’t achieve to their potential in school or life. This is why the Komo Method teaches students HOW to learn ANY subject. When your teen learns how to manage their time, self-motivate and focus, you can step back, stop worrying about tutors, and enjoy being Mom or Dad instead of the Homework Police.

If any of the following apply to you, you're in the right place.

  • You’re super frustrated watching your kids struggle in school, don’t know how to help them, and are at your wit’s end.

  • Your son or daughter works so hard, but still gets C’s and D’s, and you KNOW they’re capable of doing so much better.

  • You’re tired of seeing your child stressed and anxious about school, disengaged from learning, and can’t stop worrying about how they’ll fare as school and life inevitably get harder.

  • You’re wondering if your kid is just lazy and not putting in enough effort, or if there’s actually a block preventing them from doing better.

I get it. There’s nothing worse than watching your kids struggle, except maybe the exhaustion and frustration that comes with not knowing how to help them.Every day, I talk to parents who tell me...My kid seems perfectly content with doing the bare minimum to get by, and I just don't get it...I want to help but no matter what I try, he either won't listen if it's coming from me or even if he does at first, nothing sticks...my son is losing confidence in himself and checking out, saying things like ‘I’m just not smart enough’, ‘school just isn’t for me’ and ‘there’s no point in trying’If you’ve felt anything similar, you need to know you are not alone and it does NOT have to be this way. There’s a roadmap for ensuring your kids feel smart, engaged and confident in school and life. It's called Komo's Learn To Thrive curriculum, and you can bring it into your home today.

The Komo Curriculum walks your teen through the exact steps for doing every academic task they're ever assigned (…and some they're not, like email etiquette and inbox management). Bite-sized, actionable trainings and ready-to-use templates take the guess work out of time management, essays, studying, note taking and more.

Students work through the curriculum in as few as five minutes a day. Within a week, most teens start seeing the difference (and wondering why they aren't taught this stuff in school).

Typical outcomes for your teen include:

  • Higher grades.

  • More confidence.

  • Strong time management and executive functioning skills.

  • Greater autonomy and initiative.

  • Working LESS while learning MORE.

  • No more guesswork on how to get started.

  • No more paralysis analysis.

  • No more feeling dumb or "working" for hours with nothing to show.

Typical outcomes for you, the parent, include:

  • No more nagging.

  • No more late nights making sure they get their work done.

  • Watch them feel proud of the grades they bring home.

  • More personal free time.

  • More family time.

  • Happier family dynamics around school.

  • Peace of mind knowing your kid can stand on their own two feet.

  • More hugs (really).

FAQ's

Will this actually help MY teen?

Yes. We've worked with thousands of students and know that building skills through schoolwork improves learning and achievement. This stands regardless if the student is neurotypical or neurodiverse and irrespective of curriculum. Our high schoolers have been in IB, AP, OSSD, specialized STEM programs and our college kids study everything from engineering to business to political science. Every single student who has learned and used these exact skills and strategies see their grades go up and stress go down. When your teen taps in to their innate learning capabilities, good things happen. It's inevitable.

What kind of students do you work with?

Most students fall into one of three categories:

  • The Classic Struggling Student

This student did well up to a certain point, then their grades started to drop. They think they’re not smart enough or pretend they don’t care about grades anyway. They’re master procrastinators and then get overwhelmed by all the stuff that has piled up. If they’re not blaming themselves, they’re blaming teachers or the subject or their learning difference.Mom or Dad is always on them about their schoolwork. They’re sick of being the Homework Police. They’ve tried to-do lists, tutors, neurofeedback, screening for learning differences, bribery, and/or punishments but haven’t seen real change. Tension and tears are common in the home.

  • The High Achiever

This student gets high grades and puts a lot of pressure on themselves. They tend to be perfectionists, often suffer from anxiety and can be found working late hours. Their identity and self-worth is largely bound up with their grades. They know their top grades will translate to offers from their first-choice universities/grad schools, scholarships etc. They just wish it didn’t have to be so hard or come at the cost of their mental health.

  • Easy A's

This kid sails through school. They do the bare minimum and get good grades. They’re naturally bright and figure they lucked out. Then they hit high school or university, things get harder, and they start struggling. They learn the hard way that success at that next level comes from skills that they never built.

Who is Kelsey and why did she create this?

👋Kelsey here, founder of Komo. I know that every teen can feel smart, confident and self-motivated.Every student can get good grades, even if they have learning differences or can’t focus or hate their subjects or have struggled for years.I know this from 20 years of working with thousands of students but really, I know this because I was a struggling student myself.📖 When I was in the 6th grade, I broke my pelvis in a horseback riding accident. I missed months of school which was then reflected in failing grades.😭 My teachers read students’ grades aloud in class from highest to lowest in a mortifying display of public ridicule. This seemed standard for the French school system I attended at the time. I was always at the bottom and invariably went home in tears.🚀 In efforts to “catch up”, I stumbled upon strategies that ultimately laid the foundation for a successful academic career.🧐 While my 12-year-old self didn’t know terms like executive functioning or metacognition or even time management, the strategies I began practicing strengthened these core learning skills. I started to understand what I was being taught and my grades skyrocketed.🪞In hindsight, learning how to learn unlocked my confidence and capacity to thrive in school.🤑It’s why I earned over over $100,000 in scholarship offers and awards for college and grad school.🔈️ It’s why I’m so vocal about the impact of students building skills, explicitly and systematically. It’s life changing and seriously affects the opportunities available to them.💛 Granted, at the time, I was simply grateful to escape classroom humiliation. But the experience instilled in me profound empathy for struggling students that I carry with me to this day. It’s why I chose to dedicate myself to helping students realize that school doesn’t have to suck. They ARE capable, they CAN learn, and with the right skills they are unstoppable.
